Finally we have gotten the rain that we so badly needed.
My heart aches for those for whom rain has taken their homes, and in some cases more. Those in Oklahoma, Minnesota, Wisconsin and those who have been and will be touched by the hurricane. I see the news stories, see the rescues, and hear the tales of those who have lost their lives due to flash floods and part of me feels guilty for feeling as happy as I am about the rain. I feel so conflicted.
May the Lord and the Lady comfort those who have lost dear ones, may Gaia be temperate and direct the rain to where it is needed and not where it has been too bountiful.
But, for tonight, the one called Stormsinger is sitting on the front porch, enjoying every liquid drop, every fork of lightning.
The forecasters have been promising rain for days now. 100% chance of heavy rain, especially tonight. We were under a flash flood watch, we were expecting 2+ inches of rain before the front lifted northeast tomorrow morning.
This is what I hoped would happen .... lightning, thunder and rain, blessed rain.
What we got was sprinkles. Not even enough to cover the patio. (I took a picture but have not downloaded it yet.) A pitiful amount. The storm stayed to our south, an area which has, as of last night, gotten nearly 4+ inches in areas ... an area that certainly does not need more rain.
We, on the other hand, NEED the rain. Over the past several months there has been one day, maybe two where we got rain. The rest of the month would be dry ... no rain, no sprinkles, nothing. Our lawns would be parched (mine, perhaps, not as much as some in the neighborhood, because I tend to let the lawn grow considerably longer than the neighbors and it's more crabgrass than manicured turf). My garden has given up the ghost, it looks like those pictures of cracked, parched earth. Even my hardy herbs have nearly all died out.
This is the radar from the ten o'clock news. I live in the area not getting the rain.
I have put up with the headache that low pressure systems always give me for nearly a week now. Lived with temps in the 90's and dewpoints near 76. It's been so muggy that when I walk out the door, it's like walking face first into a fishbowl. No rain, but the headache continues.
The worst thing about it is that even though a front has gone through, the temps are not going to get any cooler. Tomorrow is forecast to be 92 and well into the 90's for the next week.
I know I haven't posted for a while, but my back has been really spasming a lot, so time at the computer has been and continues to be limited. I saw this on a list I belong to this morning and thought it might be a cute filler until I can sit for a while longer than I currently can.
Hope all of you are enjoying the warm/hot weather and the cloudless blue skies.
Have fun.

well ... actually I can. Life has been a zoo since I last posted. Our basement flooded during the last big rain and that necessitated clearing everything (and I mean everything) out of it as much of what we had stored down there had molded, I broke my toe trying to move my son's weights, I've been helping a friend move and helping another friend rearrange her house. All this as well as work has left precious little time to be on the computer.
Our solstice camping trip was WONDERFUL. Most of our pagan tribe showed up and camped all weekend. We had a wonderful naming ceremony for our newest member of the tribe (born in mid February). The weather, projected to be sunny and in the mid 90's turned out to be misty, cool (low 80's) and comfortable.
Every year I always am ambivalent about going camping (so much preparation, and never enough time to do it properly) and each year by the end of the camp out, I don't want to leave ... I want to live there year round. Although our pagan tribe is close and we get together a couple of times a month, the camp outs are a truly special time. The sense of family and belonging is pronounced and welcomed.
The first night we all sit around the campfire and talk until the wee small hours of the morning. The conversations are eclectic - running the gamut. Often it is nearing dawn before the last campers head to their tents. This year was no different.
A couple of years ago we actually had a group drumming up the sun. It was glorious waking up to the sound of drums. This year we had communal breakfasts both of the mornings. I am learning so much about camp cooking (I'm a fair to decent cook in the kitchen and am eagerly learning how to cook over a campfire.)
My son, a friend and a tribemate's 8 year old daughter spent hours walking around the park taking photos. This is only one of many they captured. This breathtaking sunset was taken by the eight year old. Some eye she has ....
Then, all too soon, it was time to pack up and go home. As we have done every year in the past, many of us gathered for one last meal, this time at IHOP. it was a lovely ending to a wonderful weekend.
I'm looking forward to Mabon when we will all do it again.
